Why is it important for your brand to celebrate Earth Month and how are you celebrating throughout the month?

At Magic Chocolate, environmental and social responsibility have been cornerstones of our business since the beginning. As the makers of the world’s first Regenerative Organic Certified® (ROC®) chocolate, we’re honored to be a steward of regenerative organic values and hope to inspire  fellow chocolate brands to adopt these farming practices.

For Earth Month, we are celebrating the launch of our Truffle Bar collection, which on April 1, 2026,  launched in Sprouts Farmers Market locations nationwide. Drawing inspiration from a signature offering from our Swiss chocolate maker, Maestrani, these velvety, melt-in-your-mouth Truffle Bars are available in four flavors and feature a mix of candied hazelnuts, oat milk and dark chocolate, and raspberry filling with a hint of citrus. In keeping with our mission, these bars are Certified USDA Organic Certified, Fair Trade, made with ROC® cocoa and sugar, gluten free, and plant-based. As the first new product line introduced since Magic Chocolate Inc. assumed the chocolate bar line from its partner, Dr. Bronner’s, the Truffle Bar collection truly embodies our ethical ethos and Maestrani’s Swiss craftsmanship, complete with a whimsical branding that pays homage to its origins.

What does your brand do to help create a healthier environment and to treat the planet more respectfully everyday?

As a company dedicated to supporting regenerative organic farming practices, Magic’s commitment to the environment goes beyond organic farm partnerships to encompass the wellbeing of both people and the planet. We sourced our cocoa from 2,500 cocoa farmers in Ivory Coast who steward  7,900 acres of regenerative organic farmland. With our ROC® practices, we aim to address the climate crisis and support farm partners by improving soil health, piloting dynamic agroforestry models, improving farmworker livelihood and food security, and supporting self-directed community products with the fair prices customers pay for their raw materials.

Magic Chocolate sources ROC® cocoa from Ivory Coast women’s cooperative KANY and ROC® coconut sugar from Aliet Green, a women-owned social enterprise in Indonesia. Our Swiss-based chocolate producer, Maestrani, shares our commitment to sustainability. A nearly 175-year-old company, they were the first chocolate factory in Switzerland to produce organic, fair trade chocolate. Maestrani utilizes state-of-the-art techniques to craft products made with organic and ROC® cocoa in a fully carbon neutral facility with hydroelectric power.

To further our environmental commitment, in early 2026, we joined the inaugural cohort of companies in the Purpose Pledge, a collaborative initiative anchored in ten clear commitments that embedded purpose into company governance, operations, and supply chains.

What is one thing you wish everyone knew about organic?

Our Co-Founder and CEO, Joe Whinney, has been an incredible advocate for the organic chocolate movement in North America throughout his career. Joe’s journey into chocolate began after a trip to southern Belize, where he learned about regenerative cocoa systems that inspired him to bring organic cocoa to a wider audience. In the ‘90s, he built North America’s first organic cocoa supply chain, and ultimately became the continent’s largest supplier of organic chocolate and cocoa products. He next went on to co-found Theo Chocolate, which grew into the #1 selling organic chocolate brand in North America, setting a new industry standard for transparency and ethical production.

Joe has been involved in Magic Chocolate since the very beginning. Inspired by his success with Theo and aligned values, the Dr. Bronner’s team tapped him to help launch Magic, which today he co-owns with Maestrani. With Magic Chocolate, Joe and our team seek to continue to push the boundaries of environmentally and socially ethical chocolate without compromising on flavor or texture.

Why is it important for your brand to be organic?

Magic Chocolate’s commitment to organic has been essential to the brand since its inception. Magic launched in 2021 as  “Magic All-One Chocolate”, an extension of Dr. Bronner’s with the aim of supporting the company’s existing farmer partners and fostering the growth of ROC®  products. Today at Magic, we are proud to continue the brand’s dedication to working with ROC® and organic ingredients, and creating new offerings that highlight these practices, all with Swiss craftsmanship.

What does organic do to make the planet healthier?

Organic certification standards eliminate harmful synthetic farming inputs and GMOs, and promote animal welfare as well as soil health. ROC® builds upon these organic standards by requiring carbon sequestration, increased soil ecosystem health and fertility, farmer safety, and fair worker compensation.

How can consumers celebrate Earth Month?

Consumers can celebrate Earth Month by making responsible purchasing decisions from brands, grocers, and farmers that demonstrate a commitment to environmental and social responsibility, from procuring produce from your local farmers market to choosing products with organic or ROC® ingredients (and hopefully, some Magic Chocolate!). Consumers can also make concerted eco-friendly efforts at home via recycling, composting, and donating excess food to local pantries.
