Why is it important for your brand to celebrate Earth Month and how are you celebrating throughout the month?

At Straus Family Creamery, every month is Earth Month, but April is a special opportunity to elevate awareness and deepen engagement around the values that have guided us since day one. As the first 100% certified organic creamery in the United States, caring for the Earth isn’t a campaign—it’s our foundation.

Throughout Earth Month, we celebrate by sharing the stories behind our farming practices, highlighting our climate-positive initiatives, and engaging our community through education around organic dairy farming, reusable packaging, regenerative practices, and family farming.

What does your brand do to help create a healthier environment and to treat the planet more respectfully everyday?

We believe that how food is produced matters. That’s why we work with small-scale organic family farms that supply our dairy and are committed to environmentally beneficial practices: protecting soil health, eliminating synthetic pesticides, and prioritizing animal welfare.

Beyond organic, we’ve taken bold steps to reduce our environmental footprint. From pioneering refillable glass milk bottles to investing in renewable energy and working toward climate-positive dairy farming, sustainability is embedded in every part of our business. Our goal is not just to do less harm—but to actively restore and improve the ecosystems we depend on.

What is one thing you wish everyone knew about organic?

Organic isn’t just about what’s not in your food—it’s about a whole system of farming that works in harmony with nature. Organic farming builds healthier soils, supports biodiversity, ensures animal welfare, and helps sequester carbon, making it a powerful tool in addressing climate change.

A common misconception is that organic is only about avoiding chemicals, but it’s really about creating a more resilient and regenerative food system from the ground up.

Why is it important for your brand to be organic?

Organic is at the heart of who we are. From the beginning, our founder, Albert Straus, believed that organic farming was the best way to protect the land, support animal health, sustain family farms, and produce the highest-quality dairy.

Being organic ensures we uphold strict standards that benefit the environment, our farming partners, and the communities we serve. It’s a commitment to doing things the right way—even when it’s not the easiest way.

What does organic do to make the planet healthier?

Organic farming nurtures the soil, which is the foundation of a healthy planet. By avoiding synthetic inputs and focusing on natural systems, organic practices increase soil organic matter, improve water retention, and reduce pollution.

Healthy soils also capture and store carbon from the atmosphere, making organic agriculture an important part of climate solutions. Additionally, organic farms support greater biodiversity—from pollinators to wildlife—helping ecosystems thrive.

How can consumers celebrate Earth Month?

Consumers can make a meaningful impact through everyday choices. Choosing organic products supports farming practices that are better for the planet. Opting for products with reusable or low-impact packaging, like Straus Family Creamery milk in our refillable glass bottles, is another simple but powerful step.

Beyond purchasing decisions, learning about where your food comes from, reducing food waste, and supporting local farmers’ markets are all great ways to celebrate Earth Month and care for the Earth year-round.
